Davis, CA (April 8) - The fourth-ranked Loyola Marymount women's water polo team moved their winning streak to 11 with a pair of wins in the opening day of the Davis Shootout on Saturday. The Lions defeated Cal State San Bernardino 11-3 and then needed their first overtime of the season to defeat No. 20 Santa Clara 8-6.
With the 11-game winning streak, the Lions sit at 20-3 on the season and improve to 8-0 against Western Water Polo Association foes. Both win on Saturday were against WWPA opponents.
In the final game of the day, the Lions' Christine Robinson scored her second goal of the game to give the Lions a 6-5 lead with 2:56 remaining in regulation. Ho ever, Santa Clara scored with just 14 seconds left to send the game to overtime.
In the extra sessions, freshman Nicole Hughes scored her second of the game to give LMU a 7-6 lead with 1:24 remaining in the first overtime period. Robinson then added her third of the game with 2:39 remaining in the second overtime to give the Lions the 8-6 win.
The day started with the Lions gunning out to a 5-1 lead over the Coyotes and never looking back. Rosanna Tomiuk scored thee goals while Kate Hicks added a pair.
The Lions will play 16th-ranked Indiana at 11:00 a.m. and then 14th-ranked UC Davis at 5:30 p.m. to close out the Davis Shootout.
