Malibu, Calif. - Senior Carlos Malet put up a Lion-sized fight Wednesday, but his 6-1, 4-6, 14-12 effort was not enough to prevent a 7-0 sweep by fourth-ranked Pepperdine Wednesday afternoon in Malibu. No. 4 Pepperdine remained a perfect 9-0, while LMU dropped to 1-5.
Malet was the last match off the court, as he tried to prevent the sweep by the nation's fourth-ranking team by fighting Oliver Hyams in the only three-set match of the afternoon.
In addition to Malet's battle at the No. 6 spot in singles, fellow senior Mike Wojnarowicz put up a fight against Ivor Lovrak at the No. 2 spot before falling 7-6, 6-3.
Wojnarowicz and Matt Phillips also kept things close at No. 1 doubles, pushing Scott Doerner and Andre Begemann to 8-6.
The match marked the third straight WCC match-up for the Lions. LMU will break from conference action to host Cal Poly Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Center.
