Los Angeles, Calif. - No. 25 Cal Poly put up 19 hits to hand the Lions a 16-4 game two loss Saturday. Josh Lansford led the way for the Mustangs with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate to turn Sunday's game into a decisive one.
Saturday's loss left the Lions at 2-4 on the season, while the 25th-ranked Mustangs improved to 6-2. It also set up the rubber match for Sunday's game three.
LMU trailed the entire game Saturday and tallied just four runs on four hits, with Eric Farris, Kyle Mura, Casey Gordon, and Michael Glomb notching the only hits for the Lions. Farris and DeAndre Miller added a RBI each.
LMU starter Daniel Macias (0-2) worked five innings, striking out three and allowing three earned runs on seven hits.
Bud Norris made the start for the Mustangs, but did not factor into the decision after throwing just 4.2 innings and allowing three runs. Grant Theophilus (1-1), who suffered the loss for Cal Poly Friday, came on in relief to work 4.1 innings and earn the win. He held the Lions scoreless after the sixth.
The Lions and the Mustangs will play the series' decisive game three Sunday, with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. Right-hander Roberto Torres will take the mound for the Lions and face Cal Poly's Evan Reed. Sunday is LMU Pride Day at Page Stadium, and fans can enjoy special performances by the LMU cheer squad, the pep band, and Iggy the Lion.
