LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 28) - Sophomore Diego Barrera was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for his role in helping the Lions to a 2-1 win over then-#10 UC Santa Barbara. The midfielder scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game-winner.
It is the second honor of the week for Barrera who was named the WCC Player of the Week on Monday. His play was instrumental in LMU's win over the Gauchos, the 2004 NCAA runner-up. It marks LMU's eighth straight victory over UCSB.
It is the first Soccer America Team of the Week honor for an LMU player this year. It is the second time that Barrera has been named to the Team of the Week, as he earned the honor last season after scoring three goals in two games to lead LMU to two victories over San Diego.
The Lions open conference play this weekend, heading to the Northwest to face Gonzaga on Friday and Portland on Sunday.
