Barrera To Compete in Portugal With U-18 Team

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 9, 2005) - Sophomore Diego Barrera is one of 18 players representing the United States on the Under-18 National Team at the Lisbon International Tournament in Portugal starting Saturday, June 11.

The team will train for four days in Lisbon before facing home team Portugal. The U-18 Men will also face Poland and Japan during the tournament. Below is the team's schedule:

Barrera was named second team All-WCC after his freshman season, and was a key member of the LMU squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He was also named to the WCC All-Freshman Team and College Soccer News' freshman third team.

Barrera recorded five goals and three assists on the year, and was LMU's leading scorer in conference games with five goals and two assists. Barrera scored three goals during the two-game series with San Diego, earning conference Player of the Week honors, as well as Soccer America and College Soccer News Team of the Week awards. Barrera also had goals against Santa Clara and San Francisco. He finished in the top-5 in the WCC for points and goals in conference play.
