Los Angeles, Calif. - Loyola Marymount women's tennis fell 6-1 to No. 74 Cal Poly (4-3) Friday afternoon, in a match that the teams began last week at the LMU Tennis Center. After rain halted play last Sunday, the teams completed the dual today.
After earning their first win of the season against Cal State Fullerton yesterday, LMU (1-5) began play today already down the doubles point and a singles match at the No. 6 spot. The Lions got another blow at the No. 3 spot, when Patrycia Hubl had to retire due to illness.
Senior Carla Arguelles stepped up for the Lions, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Cal Poly's Samantha Waller at the top spot. Her win, combined with Erin Ivey and Kimi Kaloi's win at No. 2 doubles last week, were the two victories for the Lions.
The Lions will play their third match in as many days tomorrow, hosting No. 35 Pepperdine (5-3) at 11:00 a.m. at the LMU Tennis Center. The Waves have never defeated the Lions at LMU.
