Men's Tennis Starts Three-Match Weekend With Win Over Idaho

Boise, Idaho - Loyola Marymount tennis took the first match of a three-match weekend Friday in Boise. The Lions defeated the University of Idaho 6-1 in the final weekend of play before the WCC Championships.

LMU took the doubles point when Michael Wojnarowicz and Matt Phillips defeated Idaho's Lum-Tucker and Faulman 8-6 at the No. 1 spot and Beau Berglund and Carlos Malet defeated UI's Mucharraz and Konishi 8-2 at the No. 3 spot.

The Lions then went on to win five of the six singles matches. Nico Terrien, Berglund, Phillips, and Ashton Politanoff won in straight sets, while Wojnarowicz battled back from a 3-6 first set loss to defeat Idaho's Fabian Dummett 6-1, 7-5 in the final two sets at the No. 3 spot.

The Lions continue the three-match weekend tomorrow with Boise State and WCC opponent Portland. LMU will play just the doubles portion of the match-up with Portland Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. and conclude the singles competition on Sunday.
