Fresno, CA (March 6) -- Playing a home match for the first time since January, 14th-ranked Fresno State returned home to the Wathen Tennis Center on Saturday to defeat the Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team, 6-1.
Fresno State (7-2) earned the first point of the match against Loyola Marymount (2-4), sweeping the doubles.
In singles, freshman Serena Fermin earned the only win for the Lions with a straight set 6-2, 6-3 win over Megan Hanner at No. 6 singles.
The Lions had a chance and two other points at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, with both matches having to go to tiebreakers in a set. Freshman Robyn Baker dropped a heartbreaker at No. 2 doubles to Lucia Tallo. After falling in a tiebreaker in the first set, 7-6 (5), Baker shutout Tallo, 6-0. In the tie breaker Tallo won 10-8.
At No. 4 singles senior Jennifer Baker lost in the first set to Lucia Sainz 6-3 and the dropped a tiebreaker 7-6 (2) in the second.
The Lions will take on No. 4 North Carolina at the Home Depot Center Sunday.
