Los Angeles, CA (March 31) - The seventh-ranked Loyola Marymount University women's water polo team posted a quick 8-1 lead through the first three quarters on their way to a convincing 9-4 win over 13th-ranked UC Davis in Western Water Polo Association action at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 17-4 on the season and improve to 7-0 against teams in the WWPA. UC Davis falls to 18-9 on the season with the setback.
LMU scored the first three goals of the game to take a 3-1 lead into the locker room. In the first half the Lions had three different players get on the scoreboard, with the first coming by junior Jessica Conner in the first quarter with 4:37 remaining on a 6-on-5 goal. Sophomore Stacia Peterson and freshman Sarah Hamilton each earned goals in the second quarter.
The Lions then opened up the game with a four-goal third quarter, highlighted by three goals from senior Teresa Guidi. Hamilton added her second of the day in the quarter as the Lions built a 7-1 lead through three. The lead would grow to 8-1 on a goal by senior Devon Wright with 5:23 remaining in the game.
UC Davis would score three unanswered to cut the lead to 8-4 before Hamilton added her third of the game for the final score.
The Lions will head to the Fluid Four Invitational at Indiana University this weekend, starting with No. 8 Michigan on Saturday.
