Los Angeles, CA (Nov. 6) -- It was the final games for six Loyola Marymount University men's water polo graduatiing playersas they defeated Air Force 10-4 and fell to No. 17 Redlands 5-4 in a pair of game at Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Saturday. Nick Oster, Tyler Swanson, Trevor Wagner, Rob Beech, Sean Wimer and Pat Reilly all played in their final home games on Saturday as LMU improved to 18-9 on the season and 9-2 in the Western Water Polo Association.
In game one the Lions wore down Air Force, taking a 1-1 tie after the first frame and turning it into the 10-4 win. Junior Endre Rex-Kiss continued his stellar play of late, scoring four goals for the Lions. Scott Marshall and Cutberto Hernandez added a pair of goals and sophomore goalie Ian Elliott was once again impressive in net. For the second consecutive game he had 10 or more saves, netting a career-high 17 saves.
Just under two hours later, the Lions struggled to find offense to 17th-ranked Redlands, who came out of the gates strong to post an early 1-0 lead. The Lions would then get goals from Sean Wimer and McShane to go up 2-1 with 3:41 reamining in the second quarter. Redlands answered with two goals to close the period to enter the half up 3-2.
Rex-Kiss would tie the score at 3-3 with 4:40 remaining in the third period. Redlands would then close the game with a pair of goals in the third, with the game winner coming with just two seconds remaining in the frame. Down 5-3, the Lions would get a Rex-Kiss goal with just eight seconds remaining for the final 5-4 score.
The Lions will take on Pepperdine in the final regular season game on Thursday, Nov. 11 in Malibu at 2:00 p.m.
