Post-Game Quotes
CSUN Head Coach Terry Davila
On Saturday's first round game: "That's what happens when you face a team like LMU. There are a lot of hard workers on that team and they out-worked us in the second half. We are happy that we were here today. We had put a lot of work into today. We would have liked to see a different result. But I guess we haven't felt enough pain yet to make it to the second round. But this is a good LMU team and they are matching up with one of the nation's top teams on Tuesday. It says a lot for Los Angeles soccer for us to have this match-up today and then that match-up on Tuesday."
On LMU: "When you play against that kind of pressure, you have to show maturity on the ball, and we lacked a little maturity on the ball that cost us turnovers and gave them momentum. The only way you can beat a team like LMU is by handling that pressure. In the first half, we handled that pressure. The first 15 minutes was ours, but they took over in the second half. You have to commend LMU for sticking with its game plan and being persistent about it. They rely a lot on their energy. Their front three do a lot of hard work. A lot of it was them, and we need to be able to handle that kind of pressure."
On LMU Keeper Robert Flores: "He made two one-on-one saves and that probably was the difference in the game."
Senior Yossi Raz
On the things CSUN did well in the first half: "In the first half, we executed the things we were supposed to do."
On difficulty finding the rhythm in the second half: "I think we matched up well, but we didn't play our game. We tried hard; we fought, but we did not play the game the way we should have played."
Senior Jesse Servin
On putting CSUN soccer on the map: "We started a tradition and took CSUN soccer to another level, but there's so many of the young guys left now that have even more potential. The talent that's coming in and the talent that's already here will take Northridge a long way."
LMU Head Coach Paul Krumpe
On better second half play: "We know our field real well and it makes a difference on this field whether you are going away from the sun or looking into the sun. CSUN won the coin toss, but chose to go into the sun in the second half, so that was a big factor for us."
On LMU's defense: "They are so dangerous. We focused on trying to shut down Yossi Raz. I think we were somewhat effective in that after about the first ten minutes. He was very dangerous early on. I knew it was going to come down to somebody scoring. Both of these teams have such good offenses. It was a matter of who could shutout the opponent longer."
On Flores: "He was excellent today. He gets up well, he's not afraid to come out and win things. He makes good decisions and really was a neutralizing factor against them."
Sophomore Robert Flores
On decision making in the first half:"I felt confident going up when I had to, because I knew my defenders would cover me. Any mistakes I might have made, they would have covered up. I kind of take pride in trying to dominate my box. We work on that in practice a lot and Coach Mennell and Coach Krumpe stress that repetition quite a bit."
Senior Danny Williams
On game-winning goal:"Junior had found me earlier with one that I missed, and he found me with an even better one the second time and I was able to put it away."
