Nerison Earns Second WCC Player of the Week Selection

Nov. 15, 2004

San Bruno, Calif. - Senior Kelli Nerison has been named the West Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Nerison receives her second conference player of the week selection of the season after leading the Lions to a 2-0 week.

Nerison led the Lions to an undefeated week in WCC play to keep LMU in contention for a third place conference finish with two WCC matches remaining. In her final weekend of regular season road play, the Lions' middle blocker tallied 34 kills, 15 blocks, and hit .509 over the two matches against Gonzaga and Portland.

Ranked in the top ten in the nation in blocks per game all season, Nerison will move up in the rankings this week after averaging 2.14. She finished her seven games played with 4.86 kills per game.

The weekly honor is Nerison's second selection of the season, as the Laguna Niguel, Calif., native also earned the nod on October 11. She was also named the LMU/Enterprise Rent-a-Car Student-Athlete of the Month just last week for her play during the month of October.

15th-ranked University of San Diego clinched the WCC volleyball title Saturday night with a 3-0 sweep of 16th-ranked Saint Mary's. With two conference matches remaining, LMU will battle No. 23 Santa Clara and Pepperdine for the WCC's third through fifth spots. Currently, Santa Clara sits in third with an 8-4 league record. LMU and Pepperdine remained tied for fourth, both with records of 7-5.

The Lions will have a tough test in those final two conference matches, facing the new WCC Champion San Diego on Friday night and Santa Clara on Saturday night.

In addition to the top-25 competition, LMU has an exciting weekend planned for its fans visiting Gersten Pavilion for the two matches. The Lions will retire the jersey of LMU great Kealani Kimball (2000-2003) prior to the match against USD on Friday night, and then honor its seniors on Saturday night. Both matches will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be covered on the Lions Audio Network and Gametracker at www.LMULions.com. -GO LIONS-
