Malibu, Calif. - Loyola Marymount's Mike Wojnarowicz led the Lions through the first day of action at the Wilson/ITA Regional Tennis Championships hosted by Pepperdine. The Lions' junior advanced to the second round in singles action, along with four LMU doubles' teams.

After dropping the first set 4-6, Wojnarowicz rebounded to win two straight sets 6-2, 6-4 over UC Santa Barbara's Nick Brotman to advance to Friday's second round.

The Lions' duos of Linas Cicenas and Purav Raja, Beau Berglund and Mike Chan, Carlos Malet and Matt Phillips, and Ashton Politanoff and Wojnarowicz each dropped tough second round battles in Thursday's doubles play.

Participating teams in the regional competition include UCLA, USC, Arizona, Arizona State, San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, and host Pepperdine. Play continues through Sunday in Malibu.
