Honolulu, Hawaii - No. 25 Loyola Marymount defeated the UNLV Rebels 30-25, 30-28, 30-26 in front of a crowd
of 400 at the Stan Sheriff Center on the University of Hawaii campus Thursday. The matchup was the second meeting
of the two teams this season, with LMU winning the first contest in three games at the LMU Furama Hotel
Invitational on August 29th.
Kealani Kimball led the way for LMU (11-1) with 19 kills and nine digs in her Hawaii homecoming. The Kaunakakai
native hit .370 in the match and won match point for the Lions on one of her 19 kills.
Junior Kelli Nerison added 14 kills with a .435 hitting percentage. As a team, LMU hit a match-high .412 in game two
against the Rebels (6-4). Though it proved to be the closest game, the Lions secured the 30-28 victory on a block by
Dina DeBernardi and Tiana Newsome. Overall, LMU outblocked UNLV 9.5 to 7.0 on the match.
With 11 victories and only one loss, the Lions have set a program record for the best season start. LMU owns the No.
25 ranking in the USA Today/AVCA Top 25 Poll, earning 181 points from voting coaches.
The Lions will face No. 2 Hawaii on Friday at 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time in the Stan Sherriff Center. The contest will
mark the second top ten opponent for LMU this season, as the Lions defeated No. 7 UC Santa Barbara on September
2nd in Gersten Pavilion.
