2003 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship

May 11, 2003

Recap?|? Final Stats

Loyola Marymount Head Coach John Loughran:

On the game: "We were hoping to play better on offense. They beat us on a six-on-five offense. We drew more ejections. Our team played tight, and our shot selection was uncharacteristic of how we played during the season."

On the difference in the level of play between the MPSF and WWPA: "Yes, the gap between the two conferences is narrowing. If we play a complete game, we can beat any MPSF team."

On the strategy for Sunday's Consolation Game: "Rachel (Riddell) is the best goalie in the country. We are ready to play for third place. We want to show them what LMU is all about. We want to showcase our talents."

Loyola Marymount Junior Utility Jamie Kroeze:

On the game: "I was excited, but nervous. I believe our team had a chance to beat UCLA, but our nervousness placed us in a hole."

On winning the next game: "We need to capitalize on their mistakes."

Loyola Marymount Junior Utility Teresa Guidi:

On the strategy for Sunday's Consolation Game: "We want to take third place. We are ready to take third place."

UCLA Head Coach Adam Krikorian

On the game: "It's great for us to have a good start. We spent a lot of time preparing for this semifinal game. The key to our victory was the six-on-five."

On the rivalry between UCLA and Stanford: "They are two great universities, with great athletes, who are extremely talented. We are both defense oriented teams. This is a great rivalry that brings out the best in the best."

On preparing for the game with LMU: "We watched videos of our previous two matches. We spent more time practicing."

On the strategy for Sunday's game: "Take some of the positives from today's game, like the six-on-five, and the good start, and have a different energy level than what we had two weeks ago (a 3-2 loss in the fifth sudden-victory overtime against Stanford in the title game of the 2003 MPSF Championship)."

UCLA Junior Center Forward Natalie Golda

On the rivalry between UCLA and Stanford: "We're so familiar with each other. I expect it to be another great game between us."
