Los Angeles, Calif., - Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2003 - The 57th-ranked Loyola Marymount women's tennis team defeated Sacramento State, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Courts. The Lions improve their record to 12-10 overall and have finished regular season dual competitions.
LMU took the doubles point winning the No.1 and No.3 spots. The No.1 Lion team of Penka Fileva and Patrycia Hubl downed the Hornets Ann Roslund and Margarita Karnaukhova, 8-4. Georgina Dinham and Jennifer Baker clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win over Sac State's Petra Abraham and Cristina Rivieccio at the No.3 spot.
In singles play, straight set wins by Fileva and Baker at the No.2 and No.4 spots, respectively, gave LMU a 3-0 lead. Fileva beat Roslund, 6-0 , 6-1, while Baker downed Amanda Sanches, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Edit Pakay clinched the win for LMU collecting its fourth point. Pakay made quick work of Roberta Fessenko, 6-4, 6-1, at the No.1 spot. The Lions fifth win of the day came at the No.6 singles spot by Hubl. Hubl finished off Yasmin Kashef, 6-3, 6-3.
