Malibu, CA - Rain forced the cancellation of three matches scheduled for
Sunday at the West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. One of those matches was LMU's third place match against Santa Clara. The Lions finish tied for third with the Broncos.
Top-seed Pepperdine and San Diego played the only match of the day after a rain delay. The Waves posted a 4-1 win over the Toreros to clinch the WCC title an the league's automatic berth into the 64-team NCAA Championships.
Portland and San Francisco tied for fifth while Saint Mary's and Gonzaga tied for seventh
place.
Santa Clara senior Christine Limbers was selected the WCC "Player of the
Year" in a vote conducted by the league's coaches.
Limbers was joined on the All-WCC singles first team by seniors Penka Fileva
and Edit Pakay of Loyola Marymount, freshman Natalie Braverman and junior
Charlotte Vernaz of Pepperdine and freshman Emma Murphy of San Diego.
The All-WCC doubles first team included Fileva and freshman Patrycia Hubl of
Loyola Marymount, senior Monika Horvath and Vernaz of Pepperdine plus
sophomore Janalle Kaloi and Limbers of Santa Clara.
Braverman was tabbed the WCC "Freshman of the Year," while Hilary Somers of
San Francisco was honored as the "Coach of the Year."
