Honolulu, HIThe Lions' softball suffered a 9-2 loss at the hands of the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine in the Chevron Malihini Tournament. LMU's bats struggled to get going against tournament host Hawaii. Trisha Gomes led LMU's minimal offensive output with three of the Lions eight hits on the day.
LMU took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Lisa Abbott tripled to right center and scored on Casie Phillips single to right. Hawaii answered though scoring six runs in the next four innings taking a 6-1 advantage.
The Lions managed to add another run in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't enough. The Rainbow Wahine's bats were on fire scoring three more runs in the top of the sixth.
LMU starter Krystal Kehr gave up nine runs and allowed 14 of UH's 15 hits. Sami Strinz came on in relief and got the final three outs for the Lions.
Gomes went 3-for-4 and collected an RBI against the Rainbow Wahine. Abbott, Phillips, Andrea Guttierrez, Emily Foltz and Danielle Kaminaka each tallied a hit in the contest. Abbott and Kaminaka were the only Lions to reach home plate safely.
