Los Angeles, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount University men's tennis team earned a hard-fought victory over West Coast Conference rival Santa Clara, Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Lions took four of the six singles matches for the victory. LMU moved to 11-8 overall, 2-1 in the WCC.
"We are talented enough to beat that team 6-1 or 7-0, but they are a very tough team to prepare for mentally," LMU head coach Nik DeVore said. "I was really proud of the way we kept our cool under the circumstances."
Lion freshman Michael Wojnarowicz secured the match winning 6-2 in the third set over SCU's Ben Hidalgo. LMU's Tigran Martirosyan and Johannes Asuja secured their matches easily in straight sets. Leopold Graeubig also posted a straight set victory.
"After loosing the doubles point, it is nice to have two or three players step up and get us on the scoreboard in a hurry," DeVore said. "Tigran and Jaako really helped boost our team confidence when we needed it."
LMU will next host College of the Desert on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
