Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount men's tennis team dropped to 2-3 on the season with a 6-1 setback against UC Santa Barbara, Saturday afternoon. Lion sophomore Tigran Martirosyan continued his hot play by defeating No. 55 Carlos Palencia. Martirosyan, No. 98 nationally, has won his last four singles matches.
"This match was a huge disappointment," LMU head coach Nik DeVore said. "UCSB made us look like we didn't even belong on the court with them. UCSB is good, but we didn't play up to the level of competition today."
The Lions' schedule doesn't get any easier, taking on No. 41 Arizona State on Feb. 8 in Tempe, Ariz., No. 1 UCLA on Feb. 12 and No. 17 Pepperdine on Feb. 14.
"If we go in with the right attitude, we can use these matches to build our confidence" DeVore said. "We have nothing to lose against teams of that caliber."
