Just Briefly
The Loyola Marymount University Lions are ranked No. 67 in the latest ITA collegiate poll. The Lions played only one match last week having two of their matches cancelled due to rain. In its only match of the weekend, LMU fell 5-2 to West Coast Conference opponent San Diego last Sunday afternoon. Patrycia Hubl and Diana Vinis collected the only singles wins of the day for the Lions.
Next Up
The Lions have a busy week ahead with three matches in five day. First up for LMU are back-to-back road matches against Cal State Northridge and No.72 UC Irvine. The Lions face the Matadors on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. and the Anteaters on Friday, Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m. LMU rounds out the week with its first home contest of the season. The Lions welcome the Long Beach State 49ers on Saturday, Feb. 22. That match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
Milling Over The Matadors
Cal State Northridge welcomes the Lions with a 2-2 overall record. Most recently, CSUN fell, 5-2, to Long Beach State. The Matadors other loss of the year came in a 6-1 decision to Pepperdine. CSUN's two wins came against Northern Arizona, 5-2, and UC Riverside, 7-0. The Matadors own a 14-12 advantage in the all-time series with LMU. The Lions however have won the last four meetings dating back to 1999.
About The Anteaters
UC Irvine enters the week with a No.72 ranking in the latest ITA poll and a 3-4 overall record, 1-0 in the Big West. The Anteaters will be the first ranked opponent that LMU has faced in dual competition this season. The doubles team of junior Tiffany Chang and junior Jenny Bowman is ranked 60th in the nation in the preseason. The doubles team advanced to the semi-finals of the ITA/Omni Hotels Southern California regional in the fall. They are currently 11-6 overall on the year. UCI is up 21-5 in the all-time series with LMU. The Lions won last year's contest at LMU, 5-2.
49ers Footnote
Long Beach State owns a 3-4 overall record and a 2-0 Big West mark after recently defeating Cal State Northridge, 5-2. The 49ers other two wins came against Idaho, 5-2, and Hawaii, 6-1. The Lions hold the edge in the all-time series at 19-13. LBSU has won the last two meetings though.
Recap vs. San Diego
The No.67 LMU women's tennis team fell, 5-2, to the University of San Diego on Sunday afternoon. Patrycia Hubl and Diana Vinis recorded the only singles wins of the day for the Lions. Hubl defeated USD's Catherine Heppell (6-3, 1-6, 10-5) at the No.4 singles spot. Playing the No.5 spot, Vinis retired Lauren Kazarian in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). The Toreros won the doubles point by recording wins at the No.1 and No.3 spots. The Lions' duo of Edit Pakay and Vinis picked up a win at the No.2 spot defeating Kazarian and Brown (9-8). The Lions fall to 0-1 in dual competition. They return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in a match at Cal State Northridge at 2 p.m.

Pakay Ranked By ITA
Senior Edit Pakay is currently ranked No.111 in the ITA singles poll. Pakay owns a 14-10 overall record and posted a 14-9 mark during the fall tournament schedule. She is playing the No.1 singles spot for the Lions and dropped her first dual competition last weekend to San Diego. Despite the singles loss, she teamed up with freshman Diana Vinis to record LMU's only doubles win of the day at the No.2 spot.
LMU Head Coach
Jamie Sanchez enters his 28th season as the head coach of the Lions program at LMU. Last season Sanchez led the Lions to a 14-11 overall record, a 4-1 WCC mark and the programs first ever WCC Championship title. The program, headed up by Sanchez since its inception in 1976, holds a mark of 360-315. Sanchez earned his second straight West Coast Conference Coach of the Year award last season. He coached four All-WCC singles selections and two doubles team awardees in 2002.
