Worthy foe deals Broncos another loss

Santa Clara proved once again that someone who can score could help. Someone like, oh, say, Brandon Worthy.

Worthy scored 19 points Thursday night despite the flu -- with his parents, three brothers, his grandmother, about a dozen cousins, plus the entire Mt. Pleasant High team looking on.

But he didn't score any of those points for Santa Clara. The San Jose kid is a freshman at Loyola Marymount, and the Lions wiped the Leavey Center floor with the Broncos, 73-61.

``I got a better feel for the coaches and the environment down there,'' said Worthy, who added that Cal, Texas-El Paso, Boston College and Iowa State as well as Santa Clara expressed interest in him. ``Tonight, the coaches told me to be aggressive and attack the basket.''
