Three Lions Named Athletes of the Month

Dec. 23, 2003

Los Angeles, CA (Dec. 23, 2003) -- Sophomore Lori Sims (women's soccer), sophomore Endre Rex-Kiss (men's water polo) and senior Keith Kincade (men's basketball) have been named the Loyola Marymount University/Enterprise Rent-A-Car Student-Athlete of the Month for leading their respective teams to high levels of success in the months of November.

Sims had a breakout month of November as the Lions went 2-0 to close the month. Sims tallied seven points in the two games, scoring three goals with an assist. Her seven points in the final two games of the season were 70 percent of her points on the entire season and more than all but three players for the entire year.

In the 2-1 win over Saint Mary's in the final game of the season, Sims scored both goals for the win. In the Lions 4-0 win over San Francisco she scored a goal and had an assist. She was named to the All-WCC honorable mention team to close the season.

Rex-Kiss, who was the male Student-Athlete of the Month in October, finished the season for the Lions with a team-high 61 goals, including 21 in the final month of the season. He started the month with a hat-trick in a tough overtime loss to third-ranked UCLA and finished the month with four games of three goals or more.

He added three in the win over Redlands, four against Stanford in the NCAA semifinals and three to pace the Lions to a third place finish in the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championships. He added 19 steals and 11 assists in the final stretch of the season. He earned honorable-mention all-conference honors and his seven goals in the NCAA Championships earned him first-team all-tournament.

Kincade joins Rex-Kiss as co-Male Student-Athlete of the Month after leading LMU men's basketball to its first unbeaten November in nine years as the Lions started the season a perfect 4-0. Kincade finished the month leading the Lions with 13.3 points per game, including consecutive 20-points games.

Kincade scored 21 points in the win over Cal State Northridge and 22 points in a win over SUNY-Binghamton. Against CSUN he went 12-for-13 from the free throw and against Binghamton he was 8-for-15 from the field, including a career-best three three-pointers.

Also nominated this month were Armando Melendez (men's soccer), Kealani Kimball (women's volleyball), Krista Zabor (swimming) and Kate Murray (women's basketball). The selections are made by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, which features members from all 17 sports at LMU.
