Box Score

Los Angeles, Calif., - Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 - The Loyola Marymount women's basketball team claimed its fourth home victory with a 76-64 win over UNLV on Monday evening in Gersten Pavilion. Senior Kate Murray totaled 21 points, as the Lions' seven straight win set the program record for consecutive wins.

The Lions (7-1) took the early lead with the help of senior Adrianne Slaughter. The center scored LMU's first eight points and surpassed 1,000 career point mark with her first field goal. Murray, who was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week earlier on Monday, picked up a steal after just four minutes of play to start a 7-0 run that gave the Lions a 15-6 advantage.

Though UNLV (5-2) battled back within three, the Lions scored six points straight out of the timeout to bring the score to 25-14. With seven minutes left in the first half, junior Mary Turner drove hard into the paint and dished the ball out to Murray who sank a jumper for the 29-20 lead.

LMU's tough defense forced a UNLV shot clock violation with 1:55 remaining in the first half and held the Lady Rebels to a 38.2 field goal percentage. The Lions shot 55.6 percent from the field in the first half.

Junior Jacquelyn Woods maintained a ten point lead for the Lions at 57-47 with 7:23 left in the game when she converted on a three point play. Senior Jasmin Matthews, who had the assist on the previous play, then scored a bucket of her own to put the Lions up by 12.

With just under five minutes to play in the game, LMU got quick back-to-back baskets from Bianca Ziemann and Turner. The Lions, who out-rebounded the Lady Rebels 22 to 15 in the second half, defeated UNLV 76-64. It was LMU's first program win over UNLV.

The seniors led the way for the Lions with Murray tallying 21 points and Slaughter posting 14 points and three blocks. Turner added 12 points and a career-high six assists.

RanDee Henry led the way for the Lady Rebels with a game-high 29 points.

The Lions leave Gersten Pavilion for a five day road trip, where they will face IUIPI on Thursday, December 18 at 4:00 p.m. (PST), and Cincinnati on Sunday, December 21 at 10:00 a.m. (PST).
