Former Lion Signs Professional Contract

July 30, 2002

Los Angeles, CA (July 30, 2002) -- Former Loyola Marymount University women's basketball standout Bryn Britton has signed an eight-month contract to play professional basketball in Luxembourg with the Amicale Stesel organization.

Britton, who set the all-time LMU scoring record in her final season in 2001-02 with 1,662 points, will leave for Luxembourg on Aug. 13, 2002.

Amicale Stesel was an organization founded in 1947 as the first club program in Luxembourg. It has since grown into a program with four senior teams, which includes a professional men's and women's team, and 12 youth teams. All told 180 players are a part of Amicale Stesel. The two professional teams play in the FLBB, Luxembourg's professional organization.

Britton finished her career as a three-time first-team All-Conference selection in the West Coast Conference. She led the Lions with 15.3 points per game and also led the team with 101 assists. She finished third on the squad with 35 steals.

To close out her career, Britton suffered a knee injury that kept her out of the Lions' final game of the season in the WCC Tournament. However, she has been cleared to play and is looking forward to an experience of a lifetime.

"I am very excited to have this opportunity," Britton said, who will be the only foreign player on the team. "I know of a couple of people who have played internationally, so I will rely on their experiences to help me. I am nervous and will probably get more so as I get closer to leaving. However, my excitement to play professionally is far greater than my nerves."

Britton finished her final season at LMU as the team's Best Playmaker, earning the award for her ability to not only come through in the clutch but also for her awareness on the court to find her teammates in key situations.
