Los Angeles, CA - The Loyola Marymount University (LMU) men's tennis team defeated Boston College 5-2 Friday afternoon at the LMU tennis courts. The Lions, playing with only five players, were able to tower over the Eagles.
In doubles, the Lions took the No. 2 and No. 2 matches with ease. Boston College won the No. 3 match by default, as the Lions took the point.
The Eagles were overpowered by the Lions in singles, however, as the Lions took the top four singles matches in straight sets. The Eagles were able to get the points at No. 5 and No. 6 (def).
The Lions (7-3) played without Johannes Asuja and Anthony Evrard who watched from the sidelines with illness and injury. LMU changed the usual line-up around as Beau Berglund was able to play at No. 4 winning in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) and Ryan Gerstner moved into the No. 4 spot giving up only one game in his straight-set win (6-0, 6-1). Leopold Graeubig played at No. 2 winning his singles match in two, 6-3, 6-2, and the Lions freshman sensation, Tigran Martirosyan enjoyed his win in two at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2).
Next the Lions will face Northern Arizona on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Northern Arizona will play Boston College on Saturday at the LMU Tennis Courts before they face the Lions.
