No. 68 Women's Tennis Defeats UC Irvine, 5-2

Los Angeles, CA - The Loyola Marymount University 68th-ranked women's tennis team defeated the unranked Anteaters from UC Irvine 5-2 Thursday afternoon at LMU's tennis courts.

The Lions, 5-6, swept the Anteaters in doubles play, led up front by LMU's No. 1 seed Andrea Lord and Angelina Zdorovytska defeated Jonni Seymor and Tiffany Chang decidedly, 8-4. At No. 2, LMU's Penka Fileva and Jessica Placencia took the match from UCI's Anna Bentzer and Hui Leo, 8-6. Edit Pakay and Julie Hladik rounded out the Lion's doubles lineup with a close 9-7 win over Christine Pasner and Amy Tranckino.

Lord faced Seymor at the No. 1 singles match, as Lord took the straight-set match, 6-3, 6-4. Fileva played the No. 2 spot for the Lions, defeating Trackino giving up only four games to the Anteater in the straight-set match, 6-0, 6-4. Pakay, ranked at No. 56 in the latest ITA rankings, played No. 3 in the Lions' lineup, defeating Chang. Pakay gave up only three games in her straight-sets victory of 6-2, 6-1. Zdorovytska played No. 4 for LMU, also taking her victory over Bentzer, 6-3, 6-3. Georgie Dinham was defeated in a tough three set match at No. 5 to UCI's Kristina Boss, decided in a third-set tie breaker (3-6, 7-6, 8-6). Jessica Placencia was also defeated playing at No. 6 against UCI's Christie Posner in a match ended as the temperature dropped and the lights shown brightly over the courts (4-6, 7-6, 10-8).

Next, the Lions will travel to face the 15th-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs in Fresno on Saturday, March 2.
