Los Angeles, CA - The 2002 Loyola Marymount University (LMU) men's tennis team defeated the team from Azusa Pacific Monday afternoon (6-1) on LMU's tennis courts as the Lions improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Lions swept the competition in doubles with their regular one-two-three punch. Tigran Martiroyan and Leo Graeubig defeated APU?s Simon Bieri and Sam Fletcher 9-7 in the No. 1 match-up. Playing at No. 2 for the Lions were Johannes Asuja and Anthony Evrard who defeated Adam Davidson and Gordon Hong, 8-5. Ryan Gerstner and Beau Berglund defeated Todd Iindbloom and Aaron Coyle 8-2 to finish the doubles matches.
The Lions defeated the Cougars in straight sets across the singles competition as well. LMU?s Asuja gave up only three points in his victory at the No. 3 spot, while Gerstner gave up only four points in his No. 6 match.
LMU's men's tennis team will host Vangurad on Monday before they take to the road next week when they travel to the Pacific Northwest to face Portland, Gonzaga and Oregon.
