Box Score

Malibu, Calif., Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 - Sophomore center Adrianne Slaughter recorded a double with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead a group of four Loyola Marymount players in double figures as the Lions snapped Pepperdine's school-record 12-game winning streak with a 75-67 victory over the Waves Wednesday evening at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.

The loss dropped Pepperdine to 15-5 overall and 6-1 in West Coast Conference (WCC) play. Loyola Marymount improved to 12-8 on the season and 4-3 in conference action.

The victory was Loyola Marymount's first at Firestone Fieldhouse since the 1988-89 season and put an end to Pepperdine's seven-game home winning streak. The Waves last home loss came at the hands of nationally-ranked Stanford on November 30.

Pepperdine was forced to play catch-up from the outset as it fell behind early and trailed by as many as 16 points twice during the first half. The Waves were hurt in the first half by poor shooting (36.7 percent, 11-of-30) and 13 turnovers.

Pepperdine made a run in the second half to climb back into the game as it outscored the Lions 39-35 in the second half after trailing 40-28 at halftime.

Pepperdine opened the second half with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to five points at 37-42 with 15:15 remaining. However, Loyola Marymount answered the run, building a 13-point lead twice, the second coming with 8:58 to play.

The Waves continued to stay close throughout and cut the Lions' lead to three (67-64) on a steal and lay-up by senior forward Sarah Richen with 1:29 to play. That was as close as Pepperdine would get as Loyola Marymount scored the next four points to build a seven-point lead with :41 remaining.

The Lions also received double-figure scoring from senior guard Bryn Britton (19), junior forward Kate Murray (16) and freshman guard Mary Turner (11).

The two teams will battle each other again Saturday when Loyola Marymount hosts Pepperdine at Gersten Pavilion beginning at 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports West 2.
