Los Angeles, CA., Friday, August 3, 2001 -- The LMU women's softball team had five athletes selected to the 2001Western Athletic Conference Academic All-Confernce team as announced by the WAC today. The Lions on the Academic team are shortstop Kim Bissett, center fielder Christy Cerecedes, second baseman Laura Eckley, pitcher Corianne Rogalsky, and left fielder Anna Trauernicht.
Bissett, a native of Akron, OH, earned her degree in accounting this past May with a GPA of 3.21. On the field she started in all 59 games, had the third best batting average for the Lions (.312), and had the second highest RBI total with 24. Her name is found in the record books for the second highest total number of games played as a Lion (250).
Cerecedes, a center fielder of Hacienda Heights, CA, is a communications studies major with a 3.33 GPA. Earlier this year she was named to the All-Conference team for her efforts on the field. Cerecedes led the team with a .343 batting average, which ranks third in the conference. She also ranks third on the team with 18 RBI. Cerecedes hit two home runs last spring.
Eckley, who is from, Cottonwood CA, graduated this May with a 3.81 GPA, with a degree in Spanish. In her last season with the Lions the second baseman finished the season with three triples, six stolen bases, and hitting .265 for the year. She was also named to the All-Conference second-team.
Rogalsky, of San Diego, CA, is a bio-chemistry major with a 3.55 GPA. The right-handed pitcher collected 18 wins this past spring and had an impressive 1.63 ERA for the season. She led the team with 80 strikeouts, pitching 137 innings. Her last start of the season was a five-inning no-hitter in a 11-0 win against Saint Mary's.
Trauernicht, from Omaha, NE, graduated in May with a 3.80 GPA and a degree in biology. She led the team in many categories, including second highest batting average (.318), put up 57 singles, and led the team and the WAC with 31 stolen bases. She sits at the top of the Lion's record books with her 126 career stolen bases.The Lion's left fielder was named LMU's Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2000-2001 academic year. Earlier this summer Trauernicht was named to the All-Conference team, and was also nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
