Los Angeles, Calif., - Wednesday, April 4, 2001 - The Loyola Marymount women's tennis team blanked UC Riverside, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Courts. The Lions improved their record to 8-7 on the season.
LMU was on fire as it swept the doubles spots for only the third time this year. The No. 1 doubles team of Andrea Lord and Angelina Zdorovytska defeated UCR's top team of Caitlin Blashaw and Kristina Schuster 8-2. Penka Fileva and Holli Freudenberg make quick work of Riverside's Carolyn Mitchell and Kelley Takeshita, 8-0, at the No. 2 spot. The Lions' team of Milica Cukulic and Julie Hladik made it a clean sweep with an 8-1 win over Lindsay Litvinoff and Le-Quyen Nguyen at the No. 3 spot.
With a 1-0 lead after the doubles competition the Lions sped through singles play winning all six singles spots in straight sets. LMU's Fileva brought home the win at the No. 1 spot defeating Blashaw 6-1, 6-1. Lord handed Mitchell a 6-1, 6-2 loss at the No. 2 spot while Zdorovytska easily handled UCR's Schuster 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. At the No. 4 spot Cukulic downed Takeshita 6-1, 6-1 and Freudenberg and Hladik recorded 6-1, 6-0 wins over Litvinoff and Nguyen at the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.
The Lions round out the week on the road. LMU travels to CS Fullerton tomorrow, Thursday, April 5 for a 2 p.m. meeting with the Fullerton Titans and then heads north to Santa Barbara for a 12 p.m. match with the Gauchos on Saturday, April 7.
