Los Angeles, Calif., - Tuesday, Mar. 27, 2001 - The No.58 ranked Loyola Marymount women's tennis team fell to No. 27 UCLA, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Lions' record now stands at 6-6 on the year.
LMU fell behind early as UCLA (5-10 overall) took the first point of the day winning two of the three doubles spots. The Lions' only doubles win came at the No. 1 spot. The team of Andrea Lord and Angelina Zdorovytska defeated the Bruins team of Lauren Fisher and Petya Marinova, 8-6.
Singles action did not bring any better luck for the Lions who dropped five of the six singles spots. Julie Hladik recorded LMU's only singles victory defeating Jennifer Donahue, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot. Penka Fileva battled at the No. 1 spot for the Lions. UCLA's Sara Walker won the first set 7-5 and Fileva took the second set 6-4 to push it to the third set. Unfortunatly for LMU, Walker won the battle and the point posting a 6-3 win in the third set.
The Lions' rigorous schedule continues tomorrow when they take on No. 8 USC in a 1:30 p.m. match.
