Los Angeles, Calif. (Feb. 3)--The Loyola Marymount University men's tennis team fell to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, February 3, 5-2. The Lions drop to 1-2 on the season dual meets.
Picking up wins in singles play were sophomore
Johannes Asuja and freshman Beau Beglund. Asuja, native of Kellokoski, Finland, took home the win in number four singles with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Mike Placek. In number five singles, Beglund, who is from Littleton, Colo., won two tie breakers, 7-4 (4) and 7-6 (2) over David Angert, to earn the victory.
While Asuja won a three-set match, number one singles
Leopold Graeubig suffered a tough 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 loss to J.J. Stewart of the Gauchos.
In doubles action, the team of Asuja and Beglund combined to earn the Lions lone doubles victory, defeating a team of Placek and Angert, 8-5. The LMU men's tennis team will take on Belmont on Friday, Feb. 9 in Little Rock, Ark.
