IRVINE, Calif. - Junior guard Jerry Green scored 15 points and senior guard Malachi Edmond added 12 as UC Irvine outlasted Loyola Marymount, 62-57, in non-conference action at the Bren Center in Irvine Tuesday night.
Junior guard Eurskine Robinson led Loyola Marymount (1-1) with 11 points and five assists, while junior guard Robert Davis added 10 points. Senior forward Elton Mashack snared a game-high nine rebounds for the Lions and junior forward Greg Lakey pulled down eight boards.
UC Irvine went on an 18-10 run to close the first half with a 31-21 lead as Green scored 10 points during that spurt.
LMU closed to within two at 41-39 on a three-point field goal by Philipp Czernin with 11:36 left in the game, but Jackson scored four straight points for the Anteaters and UCI's lead was never less than four points for the remainder of the contest.
UC Irvine shot 45 percent from the field to LMU's 39 percent. The Lions outrebounded the Anteaters, 38-35.
Loyola Marymount travels to USC Saturday night for a 7:05 matchup with the Trojans.
