Los Angeles, Calif. - The 10th-ranked Loyola Marymount men's water polo team placed 11th at the Northern California Tournament, which wrapped up Sunday in Stockton, Calif.
In their final game of the tourney the Lions defeated No. 20 Cal Baptist by a 15-9 margin, using a six-goal second quarter to pull away from the Lancers. Senior Kevin Witt had five goals and senior Aaron Eisberg found the back of the cage three times, while senior Colin Robinson was solid in goal, making six saves.
LMU was sent to the 11th-place game after falling to UC Santa Barbara 8-6 Sunday morning. After trailing the 11th-ranked Gauchos 6-2 at halftime, Loyola Marymount scored four times in the second half and held UCSB scoreless in the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback. Lion Sophomore Kevin Paulsen was busy in goal, making nine saves. Junior Kyle Witt paced the team in scoring with a pair of goals.
The Lions went 2-2 in the two-day NorCal Tournament, which was won by top-ranked UCLA. Loyola Marymount stands at 13-7 on the season and will next hit the water on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Cal Baptist.
