SPOKANE, Wash. (October 13, 2000 - Friday the 13th proved to be a Black Cat for Gonzaga University's volleyball team Friday as 23rd-ranked Loyola Marymount University rolled to a 15-8, 15-6, 15-6 West Coast Conference victory. Gonzaga (4-14, 0-5) got off to an encouraging start against the Lions (13-5, 3-1), holding a 6-4 lead in game one. But the Lions scored the next six points and outscored Gonzaga 11-2 in capturing the first game. Three Gonzaga attack errors and a pair of kills by Sarah McFarland propelled the Lions from the 6-4 deficit to a 9-6 advantage. LMU would not trail the remainder of the night, 4-4 and 5-5 deadlocks in game two the closest the Bulldogs came to grabbing a lead again. McFarland finished with a match-high 22 kills, a .488 attack percentage and 10 digs to help the Lions snap a two-match losing streak that came at the hands of No. 15 UC-Santa Barbara and fifth-ranked Pepperdine University. It was the 10th time this season the senior hit better than .300 in a match. She was the only player from either team with double-digit kills. Heather Osberg led Gonzaga with 7 kills, while Jamie VanMeetren and Abby Cullen had 6 each. The Bulldogs hit just .063 for the match, while the Lions had 49 kills for a .333 percentage.
