    Los Angeles, Calif., Sunday, October 31, 1999 -- The Loyola Marymount women's soccer team was shutout by the Saint Mary's Gaels, 1-0, today at Sullivan Field. Senior Stacey Shaw recorded the game-winning goal for the Gaels midway through the first half.

    Saint Mary's (12-3-1 Overall; 4-2 WCC) took a 1-0 lead into the half despite being outshot by the Lions, 11-2. Shaw converted an 18-yard shot after taking a long pass from Jessica Poole at the 24:50 mark of the game. Shaw caught LMU off-guard defensively for the lucky score, her tenth of the season. Poole picked up her eighth point of the year on the play.

    The Lions (12-5 Overall; 2-3 WCC) continued their offensive attack in the second half posting eight shots as opposed to the Gaels' one. Freshman goalkeeper for Saint Mary's put on a show tallying 12 saves on the afternoon to ensure the win for the Gaels. LMU goalkeeper Tracy Sharp recorded two saves of her own; Sharp's goals-against-average now stands at 0.74.

    Loyola Marymount returns to action this Friday, November 5 when it hosts Gonzaga at Sullivan Field in the second game of a doubleheader. The conference game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.

    * As a reminder, the time of the Sunday, November 7 game against Portland has been changed to 12 noon.
