    Malibu, Calif., Monday, October 18, 1999 -- The Loyola Marymount women's soccer team defeated the Pepperdine Waves for the first time in program history today, 2-1, at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu. Junior Michelle Woiemberghe scored a goal in the 68th minute to lift Loyola Marymount to the victory.

    Woiemberghe was assisted on the play by Kim Buccola and Kerri Tanksley as the trio took advantage of a lapse in the Pepperdine defense.

    The Lions (11-3 Overall; 2-1 WCC) took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute as freshman Jill Dobens beat Pepperdine goalkeeper Lindsey Brouillette to the ball and hit the back of the net for a score. Pepperdine (7-5-1 Overall; 1-3 WCC) tied the game in the 30th minute on a goal by junior Stacia Spangler, her third of the year.

    LMU outshot Pepperdine 15-10 and had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

    The Lions return to action this Friday, October 22 when they host the No.1-ranked Santa Clara Broncos at 3 p.m. at Sullivan Field.

    *As a reminder, the Sunday, November 7 game against Portland has been moved from a 1 p.m. start to a 12 Noon start.
