LMU Forward Erin Fahey Converts Header Early In The Second Half To LiftThe Lions To Their
Eighth Win Of The Season
Los Angeles, Calif., Friday, October 1, 1999 -- Loyola Marymount forward Erin Fahey took a cross from mid-fielder Amanda Shellenberger from five yards out and converted a header at the 47:57 mark of the second half, lifting the Lions to a 1-0 victory today over visiting Cal State Fullerton at Sullivan Field.
LMU (8-2 Overall) outshot the Titans 6-2 in the first half, however, both teams played to a 0-0 tie going into intermission. The Lions came out strong early in the second period and took control after Fahey scored 2:57 into the second half, picking up her fourth goal of the year. Shellenberger's assist on the play improved her season total to three, a category in which she assumed the team lead. LMU was led offensively by junior Angela Ichinose who took three shots in the contest. LMU outshot Cal State Fullerton, 11-4, on the afternoon. Goalkeeper Tracy Sharp picked up her eighth win of the year and shared the shutout with sophomore Elizabeth Skhal who took over duties in the net in the second half. With half the shutout today, Sharp improved her career total to 24.
Cal State Fullerton (5-4 Overall) struggled most of the afternoon offensively. Taking just two shots in each half, the Titans only threatened late with just under three minutes to play. Leah Sims led Cal State Fullerton with two shots in the game, one of which was on goal. Titan goalie Marla Nelson finished with one save in the losing effort.
Loyola Marymount will enjoy a full week off before returning to action next Friday, October 8, when it plays host to Utah State at Sullivan Field. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
