MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS CALIFORNIA, 1-0

    Berkeley, Calif., Friday, September 17, 1999 -- Loyola Marymount's men's soccer team defeated the California Golden Bears, 1-0, today at Edwards Stadium.

    Freshman Andres Murriagui scored the game-winning goal for the Lions off the assist from freshman Jeff Kovar with five minutes remaining in the game. Murriagui ricocheted the ball off the far post and into the back of the net for his first career goal, while Kovar collected his first assist of the season on the play.

    The Lions, now 4-2, posted 17 shots on the day, keeping the Golden Bear's goalkeeper Doug Brooks busy. Brooks recorded seven saves in the contest, but came one shy of the victory.

    California, who falls to 3-1-1, tallied just eight shots giving LMU goalkeeper Jerad Bailey his eighth career shutout.

    The Lions return to action this Sunday, September 19 when they will travel to Sacramento, Calif. to face Sacramento State at 2 p.m.
