Klosek Ties Game Late but Lions Cannot Hold On in Stockton

Stockton, Calif. - LMU dropped the series finale to Pacific on Sunday afternoon at Klein Family Field, falling 6-4 to close out the weekend.

Garret Plata held the Lions in check for most of the afternoon, limiting LMU to just five hits over 7.1 innings.

Pacific struck first in the bottom of the first when Robert Orr doubled and came home on a Jake Tandy RBI single off starter Avery Laine, giving the Tigers a 1-0 edge through one inning. LMU's offense was kept off the board entirely through the first four innings, managing only a Cooper Whitton single in the third before Plata erased him on a pickoff.

The Lions broke through in the fifth when Travis Friend led off with a solo home run to left field, knotting the game at one. It was a no-doubt homer over the left-center field wall for Friend's tenth homer of the season.

Pacific answered in the sixth when Diego Davis singled to right-center with two outs to score Braeden Schnabel, putting the Tigers back ahead 2-1. An unearned run in the seventh extended the Pacific lead to 3-1, as a throwing error by Ghiorso allowed Schnabel to score after he had stolen second base.

LMU responded with a three-run rally in the top of the eighth against Plata and reliever Connor Raridan. With the bases loaded, Jaxson Wall reached on a fielder's choice to score Jake Lyall, and Richie Klosek followed with a two-run single to left field, pulling the Lions even at 4-4.

Pacific answered immediately in the bottom of the eighth off relievers Jake Geis and Matt Moreno, plating two runs to retake the lead at 6-4. A wild pitch scored one run, and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Schnabel forced in another. The Lions went quietly in the ninth to complete the series sweep.

Friend finished with a homerun and an RBI to lead LMU offensively. Klosek drove in two runs with his eighth-inning single.

Laine pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits before giving way to Geis, who was charged with two additional runs in the eighth.
