Lions Sweep Weekend to Set Up WCC Showdown

LOS ANGELES - LMU men's tennis swept Portland 4-0 Saturday morning at the LMU Tennis Center, claiming its twelfth consecutive victory to improve to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in West Coast Conference play.

The Lions won the doubles point 2-1. Cruz and Emil Kindhult went first at No. 2, defeating Stefan Skobelev and Lucas Kimelman 6-3 to extend the pair's winning streak to nine consecutive matches. Tristan Messerli and Darius Tamaddon, now 2-0 together since forming as a duo, clinched the point at No. 3, topping Tom Garcia and Eli Noel 7-5. Portland took No. 1, where Nikola Keremedchiev and Cade Fernando edged Alex Padro Parra and Max Wuelfing 7-6(4), but the Pilots could not prevent LMU from securing the doubles point.

Padro Parra extended the lead at No. 4, defeating Lucas Kimelman 6-3, 6-3 to extend his winning streak to 12 consecutive matches. Kuba Hrynkiewicz followed at No. 5, downing Skobelev 6-3, 6-3 to push his own streak to five straight wins. Cesar Cruz sealed the match at No. 2, edging Cade Fernando 7-6(8), 6-4 to run his individual winning streak to 10.

Matches at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 were suspended once the outcome was decided. Wuelfing led Keremedchiev 6-2, 4-6, 5-1; Kindhult trailed Garcia 6-4, 2-6, 2-4; and Messerli held a 6-4, 4-6, 2-1 edge on Binder.

LMU will host No. 16 San Diego on April 10 in a clash of unbeaten WCC teams. The Toreros handed the Lions a 4-3 defeat in 2025 in a match that came down to the wire, and LMU will look to even the score on its home court.
