Andjela Matic Named WCC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week After Championship-Clinching Performances

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU senior guard Andjela Matic has been named the final West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, after delivering a championship-sealing week that propelled the Lions to their first outright WCC regular-season title since the 2003-04 season.

Matic played some of the most composed and impactful basketball of her career across two critical road victories. She opened the week by scoring 15 points while adding four rebounds and three steals in LMU's 66-57 win at San Francisco, knocking down four three-pointers and providing the offensive rhythm the Lions needed to control the matchup.

Her defining moment, however, came two days later on the biggest stage of the season. With LMU locked in a tight overtime battle at Oregon State and the score tied in the final seconds, Matic stepped confidently into a deep right-wing three and buried the game-winning shot with under two seconds remaining, lifting the Lions to a dramatic 71-69 victory. That clutch basket not only secured the win but officially locked in LMU's outright WCC regular-season championship, marking the program's first in 22 years and second in program history. She finished the game with 10 points, four assists, and four rebounds, showcasing leadership and steadiness in a pressure-packed environment.

Matic's composure, poise, and shot-making were central to LMU's historic week, guiding the Lions to the top of the conference and cementing her place in one of the most memorable regular-season finishes in program history.
