Clutton Solo Effort Saves Draw for Lions

LOS ANGELES — LMU men's soccer delivered a spirited performance Thursday night at Sullivan Field, rallying late to secure a 2-2 draw against Washington.

Freshman Jaxson Hutcheon put the Lions in front just 42 seconds after halftime, scoring his first collegiate goal in emphatic fashion. Ismail Nieves switched play wide to Nacho Macias, who curled a precise cross into the penalty area. Hutcheon leapt above his defender and powered a header inside the near post to give LMU the 1-0 lead.

Washington responded with a flurry midway through the second half, equalizing on a team goal in the 66th minute before Richie Aman finished off a combination with Clarens Dollin and Zach Ramsey in the 70th to push the Huskies ahead, 2-1.

The Lions refused to fold, and the equalizer came in dramatic fashion. In the 87th minute, Lewis Clutton collected a feed from Greyson Moreno and embarked on a dizzying solo run through the Huskies' back line. The senior capped the highlight-reel effort with a blistering low strike into the bottom left corner, drawing roars from the home crowd and pulling LMU even at 2-2.

Both teams traded chances in the closing minutes, but the score line held as the Lions matched Washington in nearly every statistical category — finishing with a 12-11 edge in total shots and each side tallying three saves.

The Lions return to Sullivan Field on Thursday, Sept. 11, to host Cal State Fullerton.
