Prior to LMU:
2024: University of Redlands: Served as captain and named all-conference in his two seasons at the University of Redlands… Named ACWPC Division III Player of the Year… 1st Team All-SCIAC performer… made the USA Division III Collegiate National Championship All-Tournament Team… Earned ACWPC Outstanding Recognition on All-Academic Team in 2025… Finished the season playing 27 games posting a 15-12 record... Had a goals against average of 11.21, saved 38.7 percent of shots faced, made a total of 189 saves, recorded 33 steals, and assisted on eight goals.
 
2023: University of Redlands: Named Second Team CSC At-Large Academic All-American… Barrera was the starting goalkeeper for the Bulldogs who finished as the USA Division III Collegiate National Runners-Up in the fall of 2023… Made 205 saves, recorded 28 steals, and had eight assists… For his performance he was named an Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) 2nd Team All-American and was the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Defensive Player of the Year, while collecting 1st Team All-SCIAC accolades... He also earned ACWPC All-Academic Outstanding (GPA of 4.00-3.71) honors.

Competed at NAIA member Westcliff.
 
BRIEFLY: Born in Guanajuato, Mexico… Son of Ignacio Barrera Auld and Guadalupe Sanchez Uribe… Has three older siblings: Ignacio, Guadalupe, and Daniela… Selected to join the Mexican Men's Water Polo National Team at the 2023 Pan-American Games in Santiago, Chile.
