COLLEGE STATION, TX – The LMU Lions battled hard but came up short against Southeastern Louisiana, falling 3-1 on day two of the Texas A&M Invitational.

The Lions came out hot in the opening set, jumping ahead 5-1 thanks to a string of SLU errors. Back-to-back kills from Isabella Ocampo and a strike from Sophie Stephenson helped LMU stretch the lead to five. SLU chipped away late, tying it up at 19-19 and even snagging the lead, but LMU answered. After a back-and-forth finish, the Lions scored the final three points to lock up the set, 28-26.

Set two stayed tight early, but a four-point burst gave SLU a 12-8 edge. A Stephenson kill kept LMU close, but the Lions couldn't close the gap as SLU pulled away for a 25-17 win.

LMU opened set three with the first point, but SLU fired back with five straight. A kill from Sophia Keene and a Kayla Lopez ace brought LMU within one, and a solo block from Kaitlyn Evans later tied things at 18-18. Despite the push, SLU closed it out 25-21.

SLU took control of the fourth set right away, using a 7-0 run to jump ahead 12-5. LMU made a late push sparked by a Kaitlyn Evans kill, but SLU closed it out with the last five points for a 25-16 win to take the match.

Maddie Boerstra led the Lions with a match-best 19 kills, while Delfina Schuh handed out a game-high 32 assists.

The Lions will play again tomorrow afternoon, taking on the host team, No.14 Texas A&M, at 1 PM in Reed Arena.
