LOS ANGELES – The #16 LMU Men's Water Polo played their first home games of the
David Carrasco coaching era on Saturday afternoon against a tough opponent in #3 Stanford. The Lions dropped the game 15-8 after staying within three goals of the Cardinal throughout the first half.

Bence Barics opened the scoring for the home team and gave the Lions an opening-possession goal just 42 seconds into play. Stanford responded with the next six goals before
Josiah Yeager beat the clock and scored with two ticks remaining in the first quarter.

Caden Poulleau and
Roman Saroyan scored back-to-back goals early in the second quarter to pull the Lions within two, 6-4. Stanford responded with the next two goals to double their lead before
Abel Romero Corbalan scored at even strength to pull LMU back to 8-5. Stanford added one back in the closing seconds before intermission.

Stanford scored three of the four goals of the third quarter, with
Johnny Mendiburu's shot at 4:24 giving the Lions their sixth goal of the day.

After the Cardinal jumped ahead 15-9, LMU's Romero Corbalan and
Richie Rimlinger closed the game with a goal apiece to bring the score final at 15-8.

Finn Friedland and
Roberto Barrera Sanchez split time in the cage and combined for nine saves over the two halves of play.

The Lions will return to Burns for a September 13 doubleheader against both Brown and UC Santa Barbara.
