LOS ANGELES — LMU women's soccer battled No.6 Tennessee at Sullivan Field on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 in the home opener.
Junior goalkeeper JJ Hoover kept the Lions in the match with six saves, including three in the opening 20 minutes to hold off early Volunteer pressure.
LMU created chances throughout, finishing with eight total shots. Grace Thao nearly leveled the match in the 52nd minute, striking the woodwork before sending another chance just over the bar seconds later.
Callan Harrington led the Lions with four shots, including one on target in the final 10 minutes.
Tennessee opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a penalty kick and added goals in the 62nd and 89th minutes.
LMU (1-1) continues its homestand on Sunday, Aug. 31, hosting Columbia at Sullivan Field.
