LOS ANGELES –
Ruth Arino Ruiz has been named Golden Coast Conference for the second consecutive season, the conference announced on Tuesday. Arino Ruiz is just the second player all-time to win the GCC's top award in back-to-back seasons. Arino Ruiz was joined on the All-GCC First Team with teammates
Alyssa Barnuevo and
Yanah Gerber.
Anna Tarantino was selected to the All-GCC Second Team, while
Cianne Benjamin made the GCC All-Freshman Team.
Ruth Arino Ruiz became just the second player to ever surpass 100 goals in a season, scoring 102 goals to lead the league. Arino Ruiz also led the conference in assists with 64 and totaled nearly 60 more points than the next closest player with 166. The senior also ranked third in steals with 38. In GCC games, Arino Ruiz averaged 4.9 goals per game, 2.6 assists per game, 7.4 points per game, and 1.9 steals per game.
In her first season at LMU,
Alyssa Barnuevo recorded 215 saves, which ranked third in the GCC. Her 11.03 goals against average and .456 save percentage also ranked in the top-3 of the conference. In conference play, those numbers improved to an 8.57 GAA and 45.9 save percentage.
Senior
Yanah Gerber tied for third in conference games with 23 goals on the season. Her 26 points also ranked in the top-10 of the GCC. Against conference opponents, Gerber scored 3.3 goals per game.
Anna Tarantino ranked in the top-10 of the GCC in both assists with 37 and points with 84. Her 33 steals ranked sixth this season, with 12 coming in the seven conference games.
In her first season of collegiate water polo,
Cianne Benjamin scored 13 goals and recorded four assists for 17 points with eight steals for the Lions.
The season continues for LMU on April 25, as the Lions enter the Golden Coast Conference Tournament as both the top seed and the hosts. LMU will play the opening round at 4:00 PM on Friday against the eight-seed Santa Clara.
