Irvine, CA: The Association of College Water Polo Coaches has selected four players from this year's Golden Coast Conference Champion LMU Lions as ACWPC All-Americans for their exceptional performance throughout the season.
Anna Tarantino highlights LMU's All-American list with her selection to the organization's Third Team.
Cila David,
Sophia DeMattia, and
Emison Styris all received Honorable Mention recognition. The last time that the program had four All-Americans was in 2010.
Tarantino was an All-GCC performer this season after leading the Lions back to the NCAA Tournament. In the quarterfinal game against eventual national champions USC, Tarantino led the Lions with four of the team's five goals, drew two exclusions, and recorded two steals. On the year, Tarantino scored a team-high 55 goals and added 28 assists for 83 points on 51.4 percent shooting. In her final year, Tarantino led the GCC with 43 field blocks and ranked in the top-5 in steals with 35.
David became an All-American in her lone season at LMU. The Hungarian scored 23 goals with 21 assists for 44 points to go along with her 19 steals. David scored two goals in both the GCC Championship semifinal and final games to earn a spot on the GCC All-Tournament Team.
DeMattia closed out her season as LMU's leader in points and the conference's leader in total assists. DeMattia recorded 2.5 assists per game for a total of 69 on the year and finished at 3.3 points-per-game with 93 total as part of her All-GCC Second Team season. DeMattia also tied for second on the team with 23 steals and 25 exclusions drawn this season.
In her first season of college water polo,
Emison Styris adds an All-American recognition to her accolades list that includes selections to both the All-GCC Second Team and the GCC All-Freshman Team. Styris ranked second on the team with both 45 goals and 35 assists and ranked second in the GCC with 43 field blocks. The freshman also led the team with 35 sprints won for a 70%-win rate.
